Artist: Philomene
Artist & Entrepreneur
I love art and everything handcrafted. I am from West Cameroon, the Bamiléké tribe. I am a descendant of the traditional chiefdom of my tribe and I have always been immersed in our artistic cultures. Even in my youth, my favorite style of clothing has always been traditional and handcrafted fabrics. The originality and the art behind the craft have always attracted me. From that base, my son & CEO of Atwa Design, Mr Severin Kamguia S., came up with the whole fashionable approaches that we can see now with Atwa Design. With our crafting and design, we aim to offer a hybrid look at a crossroad between formal, casual and luxury, between African and the rest of the world, based on style, tradition and high quality.
Rooted in Africa
With Atwa Design, we are bringing ancestral African crafting knowledge into today's high fashion design with a very unique approach to show how elegance can be full of colors. I believe that the approach behind Atwa Design can help to change the way most people see Cameroon in particular and Africa in general.
Sustainability matters today & always. When you purchase products from Global Goddess you are directly supporting Womxn Creators.
About the Artist
The Process
From a cotton or linen fabric in general, a design is inspired according to the message to pass or the desired style. Based on tied and dyed fabrics, 100% handmade and crafted with ancestral African Knowledge, the procedures to be used for the creation of design are endlessly varied and very often unique.
An Intersectional Being
The intersectional being in this venture is mainly Mr Severin Kamguia S. He has been 16 years in Africa, 10 years in Europe and about 5 years in North America. When you add that to his open-mindedness, his fashion-oriented perception of things, and his deep love of culture, you get someone whose approach is by default intersectional and out of the box.
