Artist: Rhandzeka
Designer & Social Entrepreneur
Rhandzi’s shoe and bead-work projects aspire to reduce the impact of poverty and foster the continuation of healthy and sustainable family, clan, and cultural inheritance. Many young women who are involved in this project learned skills from us. Our project’s aim is to keep this a living tradition where the level of master craftsmanship is recognised to be as valuable as tertiary education. These projects provide economic circumstances for those involved to afford themselves and their children a high level of education, should that be their aspiration.
Our primary aspiration is to create sustainable income and a raised standard of living through the creation of greater economic freedom and positive impact to the communities involved.

About The Artist
We started this project to empower young women who are unemployed in our community. We have been generating income from this project to support our families since we are facing a high rate of unemployment in South Africa. We are still in the process of training more young women to brand and market our creative bead work designs locally, we are doing this to help young people in order reduce a high rate of poverty and crime in our community. Our long-term goal is to find our brand known internationally and also to supply them with our beautiful products.
Process
This is the crafts or art of attaching beads to one another by stringing them with a sewing needle or beading needle and thread or thin wire, or sewing them to cloth. Our beads comes in a variety of materials, shapes, and sizes.
Inspiration
I want to continue improving people’s lives so that they can also touch other concerned lives. In the end we all live in a peaceful world.
Social Impact
Our products do make a social impact in our community. People who come to assist us when we have a lot of orders in place, they get commission based on the number of shoes, belts, and head belts they sewed per day and they are able to support their families financially. Our goal is to get them full-time employment with us so that they can work everyday and get paid monthly.
